What is coaching?

Coaching is a method of helping a person or group to overcome a concrete challenge, and achieve a specific objective. Coaching builds awareness and supports towards empowered decisions. While there are several tools that coaching implies, every coach will provide this service in a personalized way, that best fits their approach. This means there is both standardization and customization in the broader coaching service offering.

How is coaching differently from more traditional therapy?

Coaching tends to have a defined objective and a set period of time for achieving it. In contrast, traditional therapy touches multiple areas of a client's traumas, past experiences and pain, on the path to providing healing and relief. There tends to not be a defined period of time for how long the healing journey will take, and the interaction between therapist and client will continue as long as needed.

Of course, coaching is also flexible in terms of timelines, but it tends to have a more defined outcome, which can be more easily observed and measured when achieved.

Coaching may also involve going to the root of a trauma or other internal obstacle which blocks the realization of the desired objective, but the main goal of coaching is practical growth and advancement. Therapy is more often associated with understanding and working with past experiences, whereas coaching will only touch on these areas if required through the growth journey.
